The tradition
Medieval Irish literature presents the Tuatha Dé Danann as a supernatural people who occupy a central place in Irish mythological tradition.
Figures associated with them include Lugh, the Dagda, Nuada and the Morrígan.
They appear in narratives concerning Ireland's legendary invasions, kingship and the battles of Mag Tuired.
The world behind the cards
Celtic Clash draws several Heroes and Relics from these traditions. Lugh and the Morrígan sit alongside Relics associated with Lugh, Nuada and the Dagda, which is why those cards form a recognisable group in the base deck.
Medieval transmission
Modern interpretations often discuss connections between these figures and earlier pre-Christian deities, but the surviving literature was transmitted and written in medieval Christian Ireland. It should not be read as a documented record of worshipped gods.
