Fionn mac Cumhaill is the great hero of the Fenian Cycle and leader of the Fianna, the legendary warrior band whose stories range across the Irish landscape.
His traditions combine warfare, hunting, adventure, poetry and supernatural encounters. One of the best-known stories of his youth tells how Fionn gained extraordinary knowledge through the Salmon of Knowledge.
Fionn's adventures, together with those of Oisín and the other Fianna, became some of the most enduring stories in Irish oral and literary tradition.
